We have a Trinitron TV Model # KV-35S42 Manf. date 2/02 and suddenly it just wont turn on. When we push the power button on the standby/timer light just flashes. We have tried various troubleshooting techniques and were told to call a TV repair man. My mother and I live on a limited income and have decided that we could almost buy a new TV as cheap or cheaper than to have this one repaired.

This might sound odd, but have you tried hitting the top of it quite hard? The main TV in my house has that problem. Keep it swiched on and only turn it off at the socket. If this happens again, just kit it again! However, the TV we have is a Toshiba, but I imagine all TVs are pretty much the same.
