Panasonic DVD Video recorder Model DMR-E85H?

After it has gone into sleep mode, I press the Hdd button and it then shuts off and does a self test mode.
It never used to do this.
Any Advice out there?

Hi, the DMR E85H and some other similar age Panny's have a problem with the power supply board cause by a failing 5 pin integrated circuit which stands proud of the board like a transistor. This means the machine never powers up properly and goes into a 'self check' loop. The fix is below and a competent electronics repairer should charge around £30 to fix if you source the component which costs around £5 -£10.

I have had my DMR-E85H since January 2005, and just recently had a problem with the recorder. It was completely dead. I pushed the power button and nothing worked. The machine was completely dead. About seven
hours later the power came on, and it appeared to be ok.
This is the first time this has happened. Can you give me
any information on this?
