can I fix desktop from laptop?

My windows xp pro sp3 desktop will not boot due to missing hal.dll , can I fix this problem with my laptop which runs the same program?

You can either use the a windows disk and run a repair or you could download a crackin cd called Bart. Burn to disk, boot up into that and run a check disk on the drive which will repair the corrupt or missing files.
