Happening to me. Seems to be a re-initialise issue. So, switch off, turn to movie mode, switch on. Seems to fix!

it could be a recall as I am having the same problem with the same model camera. If you contact canon they should confirm that it is a ccd problem and the will fix it for free. You can also check out the web site which will give you all the details

I have the same problem with the same make and model camera, on the lcd display i have a pink/purple horizontal line about halfway across the screen it flickers slightly and gets bigger and smaller depending on how bright the room light is. i have noticed that if i take a picture in manual "M" mode then there is no problem with the downloaded image, however, if i take a photo in auto mode and download the image there is a slight purple\pink line at the very top of the image.

Is there anybody who can throw some technical knowledge into the problem ?

thanks

Try to buy a replacement to fix from here: http://www.ownta.com/canon-ixus-500-digital-camera-repairing-lcd-display-screen-replacement.html

But I am weird why the Horizontal line on all your pic's/video's, it only appares when you view on your camera, not appears when you download the picture to your PC, right ? if yes, then, it's your camera lcd problem.
