Hero 40 boiler?

I have moved into a new property, the boiler was checked before we moved in and was given a full bill of health, now the boiler is showing a lock out light. I have a hero 40 boiler. Is there anywhere where i can down load a manual as the previous owners never left one?

as we said before if the fans bearing is failing it will stop and the boiler will cut out.
how long did the boiler run for when you lubed the fan before it cut out again ?

I got home last night and checked the pump, there wa sa blue box above and when the heating was put on this moved round. I found a dodgy connection at the boiler it self to made that better, moved the fan and that was very stiff, so i took it out, gave it a lube and freed it up, put it all back and the boiler fired up straight away.

Sadly.......the fan stopped working again.....so looks like i need a new fan!

thanks for the help guys.

check the water content and the pump.

When the hot water is being asked for the pipes are all cold, from boiler and from pump.

The boiler does not fire up.

When i reset the boiler, all the lights go out, i put the dial back to where it was and the burner on light goes green, then about 30 secs to a minute the lock out light comes on.

the rad is just connected to the primarie pipework which will work as you say all the time hw/heating demand.

the water will leave the boiler, go to the pump, then to a motorised valve/s above pump, then the motorised valve will direct the water to what ever is needed hw cylinder or heating or both.

when you call for hw or heating the boiler will fire up
and the pump will run to circulate the water
if the water fails to circulate due to pump or low water content the boiler will activate the overheat stat and go into lockout mode.

when you run boiler feel the flow pipe to the pump is that hot or cold ?
is the pipe from pump hot/cold ?

is the pump fails or the water content is to low then you won't get hw or heating as the hot in the boiler will fail to leave the boiler and go to lockout.

if boiler is firing then shutting down after about 2 mins its not a boiler issue.
9/10 times its a pump failure

since my boiler stopper ive had no hot water sorry wasnt very clear on that.

The boiler is situated in a cupboard in our porch, this is mounted on a wall which is an outside wall so the flu goes straight outside. The radiator is in the porch literally next to the boiler, only a door divides them.

I believe there are no other motorised pumps, but im guessing they would be upstairs around the emersion heater?

Am i right in thinking that the big red pump by the emersion heater pumps the water around for hte central heating? is there a pump contained within the boiler itself?

you have no hot water ?

what that boiler don't supply your hot water or you have no hot water cause the boilers not running ?

where is that rad ? bathroom etc.

have you any motorised valves after the pump ?

i have no hot water what so ever so, also i have a radiator that is directly plumbed into the boiler so when the boiler is on this radiator is always hot regardless whether the central heating is on or off, as it stands the central heating is off. Which is indicating to me that the boiler isnt working?

if the boiler is firing up and the flow pipe from boiler is getting hot near the boiler its not a fan or boiler issue.

unless the fan is making a racket its poss the fan bearing is going and then seizing if the fan stops due to a worn bearing the boiler will shut down but not useally go into lockout/over heat.

the boiler firing and going into lockout/over heat is useally a circulation problem.

the f/e is the small tank in the loft.
you can also bleed the highest rads see if water is released.

i think the pump is working, is the pump the big red thing that pumps water around the system? if so i can feel it vibrate when i touch it?

I was going to check the fan as that was making alot of noise the other day?

f/e tank??? what is this, where would i find it?

Edward, July 2009
check the pump is working.
if you can feel the pump is it hot ?
remove the centre screw check its rotating.
also check the f/e tank is full.

yes it does!

Edward, July 2009
does it fire up for a few mins then go into lockout ?
