Like most hardware now-a-days everything comes on one chip. If your mp3 player will not turn on and is not recognised in a machine. In other words if Windows XP does not assign it a drive letter or if Linux 'dmesg' does not display anything about the device. Then it is dead, best just throw it away :(
I would be interested to know if anyone has ressurected an mp3 player from this state.
