Thank you for clearing up why my new boiler was on in the day. Comfort means on temperature a1 and a3.
Setback means boiler on temperature during non set times a2 and a4.

Hi

My house mate has dropped the wireless thermostat which talks to the boiler. It turned off and I have since change the batteries and the display is back. However it is not talking to the boiler... could someone please advise if their is away of syncing these back up?

Ashley, January 2014
I have set my on and off times satisfactory but instead of the green light it occasionally changes to red flashing and the heating goes off which I then reset. please advice

I have just had a new boiler fitted and the BOSS BPS242RF, it is rubbish!
The instructions are useless but the important thing is to make sure the setback temperature isn't too high otherwise your heating will stay on.
Still getting to grips with it, good luck!

I have just had one of these installed and to say its frustrating is an understatement!
I understand the programming and the comfort and setback modes, but can you determine when the setback mode kicks in as it seems to be in setback during the day and comfort at night. The clock is set correctly

The boiler will always come as it is designed to sense the setback temperature which is the lowest you need before you feel frozen! So if you have windows open and the room gets cold and matches the setback temp which you have set, the boiler will start. So in the summer you want the setback temp set to 10 or lower to save it coming on. The lowest it can go is 5.
You can download a very nice instruction sheet from the web. Also check the switch on and off times if your boiler is running continuosly. As there is a 1st(A1) ON then 1st off(A2) followed by 2nd(A3) on and 2nd off(A4). This all have to be preset to make it work properly.simples it ain't granted.but just use the slider to the 'A' postions and dial in the desired times.

Those instructions make sense to me so I'll try them thanks! One question I have......My boiler also has a timer on it (the old dial format where you slide the pins in or out depending on when you want the boiler on). Should this be turned to the on "1", off "0" or to the timer "clock" setting? Or does it become totally irrelevant if using the Boss Therm?

Comfort Setting is on say at 0630 at 20C and the Set Back is off say 2030 at 10C (Will turn on if below 10C) Instructions are not very good, must have been written by a plumber ha.

Just in case you're still struggling with this, and for other people looking to solve the same problem.

Having just had one of these units installed with a new boiler, I've finally figured it. The unit has two temperature settings that the pathetic instructions call, 'Comfort' and 'Setback'. These two temps can be set using the slider on the right to select the relevant symbol: spin the knob until the desired temperature is shown. Set the comfort setting to the temp you want during the 'On' periods. During the 'Off' periods the system will still be active and call for heat (turn the boiler on) if the temp drops below the 'Setback' setting.

So set the comfort setting to the temperature you want say 19C and set the setback temp to the absolute minimum you want it to get say 10C. In summary then it's not so much of an off and on system as we've come to know from the old Mechanical timers but rather an 'On warm' and 'On cool' system. If you want the system to go totally off I think the only way would be to turn off the heating at the boiler manually. You can always turn the 'setback' setting right down to the min (5C I think).

I have the same problem with the timer, the person who installed the boiler also replaced it for me but it still does not work. Let me know what you replace this with.

sunil, December 2009
me too. no matter how much you set things on the timer the heating just does what it wants, sometimes if I get up in the middle of the night my house is like an oven and it should be OFF!
Instructions are rubbish.

Sorry, but I am having the same problem.
We tried to set it to come on for 2 hrs every evening why we were away & our hose sitter informed us that the heating was on constantly. The manufacturers instructions to coin a phrase " are crap "
I think this will go into the rubbish bin & do some homework on one that will work
