How can I fix my light fitting?

I think my ceiling lamp shade is to heavy for the light fitting, I've had it up nearlly a year but now the brown and blue wires are hanging down outside of the fitting. I'm not sure what I can do. Any advice would be appreciated.

If it still works there's not really a problem except maybe from an aesthetic point of view.
You could shorten the two wires slightly if you want, but make sure they are both wrapped around the cord grips in the rose.

Thank you for your reply, It's an old building with very high ceilings, I'll go and have a look and see whether I can do anything otherwise I think you're right I'll have to get an electrician round to have a look. Thank you :0)

You have three options Charlie,

If you're confident and able bodied you can get up there, inspect the fixings and correct it - not always the easiest of jobs on some ceilings especially in older properties. Longer fixing screws and/or rotate the fitting a bit to get new screw positions.

A flippant alternative is to just leave it and hope it doesn't fall down - I did this last week with a hall ceiling and a four foot square section fell down - silly me.

Probably best is to summon an electrician and have it repaired safely.

Take care...
