I have a Vaillant VCW GB 242e and the hot water is not very hot. How can I?

I moved house a couple of months ago and my new house has a Vaillant VCW GB 242E (LPG) Boiler and the hot water is not very hot. The temperature selecture knob seems to be stuck. Whether this is jammed open full or shut I cannot tell and as I have no history of this boiler, I wondered if anyone could asvise me.

Sounds like the boiler is not modulating. To test turn on the central heating with the boiler temperature setting at number 5 on the front panel control knob, with the upper door open look into the combustion chamber window when the boiler starts. Initially the flame will be small and should get larger within 5 seconds, if not the boiler is not modulating in hot water or heating modes. Check the tiny plastic unions where the pipes connect on the modulating pump are not cracked. If they are you may be able to connect the pipes directly to the modulating pump without them?
