How to stop the cursor from jumping around?

I'm typing something and every few seconds the cursor jumps backwards and I find I'm typing through what I've already typed. It is infuriating.
I have an Advent 5312. How can I stop it? I've tried using the F9 key and it makes no difference.

have you used - on control panel - keyboards/mouse icon -on this there is a section for control of mouse high and low its a good place to start

It's your non-typing fingers brushing against the touch pad on your laptop - the cursor moves while your're typing and text goes to the wrong place - I fixed it by downloading a mouse driver that disables the touchpad as soon as a regular mouse is plugged in - ALPS mouse driver - from here...

Another feature is a big circle on the screen when you depress the Control Key.

What you are experiencing is called OPDFS by computer experts - Old Persons Dodgy Finger Syndrome

Good luck...
