How do I get a downlighter bulb out of the fixing?

I have flush ceiling down lighters with chrome outer cover in my shower room. I have read the other answers to questions relating to the replacement of bulbs. When I removed the clip holding the bulb I cannot remove the actual bulb as it is the same diameter as the chrome cover. Do I remove the cover and if so how do I ensure I don't damage the ceiling

How I got one out was using a sucker that holds eg: the car sun shade on the windows. Of course providing the glass is smoth, damp it for extra suction and pull it'll come out.

Its probably just tight use something that has a plunger effect to it ie; baby bottle teat or soft rubber plug.I hope that helps
