Vinyl wallpaper?

Could anyone tell me if it's possible to paint over vinyl wallpaper please.
If so what kind of paint could I use,as I don't think emulsion will cover it.
My home has vinyl all over the place and I want to spruce it up quickly.
Appreciate any hints and tips.
Cheers

Dont try, vinyl wallpaper is a piece of cake to remove the vinyl layer, just peal the vinyl layer carefully away from the paper backing, best to start a bottom corner and just pull away, it leaves a paper baking which is great base to do whatever you want, you may want to rub down carefully the seams.

emulsion does cover over vynyl wallpaper,it might take three coats but if you're that worried get some PVA glue (you can find it in most big diy shops and builders merchants) and comes in 5ltr and 2.5ltr tubs.Mix pva and water together (75% water to 25% pva) then mix that with emulsion about 50/50 and use that as your first coat then you can emulsion the rest as normal. The pva is a glue so will stick to the wallpaper with the paint.Wash your brush and roller out when you've done with the pva so they dont go hard.
