Tape to Tape drawers won't open!?

Hi there!
The Tape slots won't open on my Hi Fi System(Which I've barely used)I did manage to get a tape in but then it jammed and I had to virtually dismantle it to get the tape out. Can anyone help?

powered mechanisms use gears, often off the capstan flywheel, if the rubber drive belts from motor to capstan perish (very common) the mechanism can't reset itself and jams. Replacing rubber parts usually solves this fault.

Simplest way to remove a jammed tape is to simply rotate the capstan flywheel from the rear of the mechanism.

Can sometimes be a problem with reversing audio heads which don't return to their correct 'straight' position.
