Wiring in a light on a ring main?

I've taken off the old light and there is a circular base with all the wires - switched live, live etc. How do I wire this into a standard light with a plastic box type connector..all the earths won'f fit into the small holes etc?

rogger - care to explain what the law is?

Concerned of London, August 2009
Leave it well alone, hire your local registered electrician, there is a law connected to electrical work in the home

I think that as you appear to have mistaken a Loop-in Circuit for a Ring Main (They are two VERY different things.) you should not be fiddling with electrical circuits. I suggest that you get an electrician before you have fire - or worse!

Lighting circuits are and never should be wired on a ring main. Usually the fittings are designed to cover these 'Loop in' boxes, but in the case they do not, they can be connected into a connector block or a junction block if you have access to above the ceiling
