I am replacing an old bathroom light - the old style has a ceiling rose with a mains and a switching loop (i.e. 2 sets of wires).

The problem is that the new light fitting does not have the integrated "junction box" for the the connections.

Is it ok to use chocolate blocks (not sure what their proper name is - the little plastic connectors where you screw a wire in from both sides to make a connection) to bridge the live to switch loop live?

Unfortunately due to short lengths I also need to add wire length to get to the new fittings connections - so is it also ok to use the little chocolate connectors to add the short sections to the new fitting?

Hi , Jim here , Bob is quite correct in what he says regarding part p in the uk it is unsafe to use any type of choc block for ceiling lighting, there are correct juntion boxes for the job and should be used also bob is correct in saying you should not be doing this yourself this type of job should only be done by a fully quaulified electrician personal safety comes before everything........

Part P in UK says you should not be doing it (Bathrooms & Kitchens + external lighting). It's an electricians job. also to ask if using chocolate blocks is ok shows your knowledge of electrics.

I got hit by a 450v burried unmarked / recorded cable excavating for a telecom firm and let me tell you, IT HURTS.
