how can I fix my Samsung LE40R88BD TV?

Having problems with samsung 40" LCD tv Model No. LE40R88BD. The TV started coming on with bright green or acid colours, that was resolved after switching off and on again. Eventually the TV started taking longer to come on with the standby light flashing and clicking a while before coming on. Eventually just kept clicking, flashing a few times then switching off, with the main blue power indicator on. After checking out website http://www.earthinfo.org/samsung-tv-makes-a-strange-clicking-sound/ found 3 capacitors CM812, CM817 & CM811 had bulged at the top and a burn mark on the ribbon next to them, so replaced 1000uF 10V with 1000uF 16V purchased from Maplin. Although this appears to rhave resolved the problem for many on the aforementioned website, it has not resolved problem for us. The TV was bought 18 months ago and thought that Samsung would be a very reliable product. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

if your tv is still making the clicking sound and not coming on after replacing capacitors then the eeprom on the main board (other board) may have been corrupted, i had the same problem so replaced the main board, found on ebay, i did not fancy trying to replace eeprom.

before you go shorting pins on eeproms I would suggest a proper understanding of how the PSU works and exactly whats wrong with it. If you do more damage by shorting the eeprom then your other halves will not be impressed! I have had a few samsungs on my bench and so far have never had to resort to shorting things out! What we actually need is better support from a company that changes its models like models change their thongs! Perhaps if a Samsung engineer is actually reading this he or she might like to give us a difinitive answer and a source of all those chips and transistors, none of which are available in the UK.

if it is just the capacitors then take it to a repair shop as remember you can do it your self and save what about £20 quid but the majority of repair stores will give you another 1 year warrenty when they have fixed it

for those still having a problem look search for eeprom reset

its on the other board, Im having exactly the same problem am awaiting a friend to fully check the psu board again before i try resetting but so far the psu is functioning normally after caps have been replaced

apparently eeprom becomes corrupt - maybe because of psu problem

Have the exact same problems, first i had the acid picture but it only seemed to do it in 'Movie' mode, dyamic & standard were fine, then i had the clicking noise with no pic or sound.

I am going to replace the capacitors although the only sign of wear i can see is bulging on 3, no leaking.

I have the exact same problem as the original poster with my 24month old LE40R88BD! It started with my tv reseting itself while I would be playing the Xbox. Then the 'Composite' channel went all weird acid colours. I removed all the connections and hoovered the vents at the back as they were full of dust. The tv was then ok for a couple of days but then would take ages to come on, it just kept clicking. When it did come on, the freeview would not work as it said no connection (wouldnt see the antenna). The picture also went really dark and the strange thing was, if I turned the backlight down, the picture got brighter!! Anyway, 2 days later, the thing refused to come on all together. Luckily I took out the whatever Happens policy with Currys and it's away getting fixed. I'll let you know how it goes.

I have the same problem with capacitors CM812, CM817 & CM811. HOWEVER CS806 has bulged as well (but no burn mark). Am going to get some capacitors and replace them... will post if it works but maybe you need to replace the extra one for it to work.
