My medway super won't light after having gas cut off for a week?

Hi everyone,

Recently i had to have the main gas supply to my house cut because of a gas leak on a faulty cooker. Since having the gas back on my Main Medway Super wont ignite. In the past i have had to reignite the boiler by holding down the "on" button for a few seconds and then pushing the "ignite" button to get the pilot to light. After countless attempts i am not sure what to do and British gas have quoted me £210 to have it fixed :s Is there something which i could try or has someone had a similar problem? Any help you provide is much appreciated. Thanks in advance :)

Kind Regards

Nathan

Your wife is Very Brave most of the best BG Engineers are now self employed due i understand to high pressure working practices etc (I'm not BG myself)
But I consider my self to be an Experienced and Qualified Oil & Gas Engineer with 36 Years Experience,

Your Wife would do well and save a packet if could trust an independant (BG Love customers such as your wife!!)

Its also strange that we have another boiler which is working fine (valiant model) but this one isn't. Your most probably right that there is still air in the pipes but surely there must be any easy way to remove it. Yes BG quoted over the phone, i think thats their standard call out fee. i would get a local engineer to fix it but the wife only trusts BG and wont have anyone else come fix it regardless of being registered with gas safe or holding any certs.

After the Gas Escape was fixed did the Engineer Purge the pipework, sounds like there is air in the gas Supply, as for BG Quoting £210 ? Did they quote that over the phone? Our Company Charges £72+Vat for a Call-out with 1 hour on site after an hour we charge by the Half hour, I would get a Local Independant Engineer to Have a Look make sure he holds WTR1 cert on his card!
