Hi Mike,
this might depend on whether you have the drivers installed, have the speakers connected to the correct socket on your soundcard, and that you have power to the speakers.
Goto START menu
Click on ALL PROGRAMS
Click on ACCESSORIES
Click on ENTERTAINMENT
Click on VOLUME CONTROL
make sure that your settings are not MUTED - uncheck any boxes - and see if that works.
