On my Singer 457 need to take apart the foot pedal to cure smoking problem?

The main problem is how does one take the item apart to look, there are no visible screws etc.When machine is switched on the foot pedal will start smoking even when not in use.

Peel off the rubber bottom, under the centre screw to open it, take out the suppressor and throw it away.
