Kitchen Exhaust Fan Wiring?

I have an old kitchen exhaust fan that has a plug-in type wire at the end. It is connected to the cord coming out of the unit with twist caps. I want to replace the old plug, but the wires coming out of the fan housing are old, short and frayed. Is there any way to open the fan housing so I can replace the wiring to the motor? It looks like the housing is held closed with rivets. Thank you for your help.
