oil fired burner problem?

hi i have a eurocal boiler with an external sterling burner,i have this serviced anually (cleaned by a qualified heating engineer).however it still seems to have the same old intermittant problem.where when its turned on and fired up it cuts out after anything from 1 minute to four hours.then it needs to be reset red button and same thing happens again.the heating engineer cant trace the fault no matter how many times he checks, and says that the only way to trace the fault is to start buying new parts one by one ,which is a road i dont want to go down.reading this forum it could be the solenoid?is this true?.
many thanks.

The solenoid is a coil of wire that sits on top of the oil pump - when it is energised it opens a valve inside the pump, allowing the oil to flow. As elenar says, these solenoids are prone to failure, and cost around £22 - quite expensive as a pump complete with coil costs around £50 (Danfoss). I think your boiler needs a thorough clean - excess soot in the flue can cause all sorts of problems and at least no parts are needed! I'd also change your boiler engineer.....!

A Solenoid coil would be a very good start,
Your Engineer is obvioulsy not very experienced in fault diagnosis and clearly does not carry even the most basic parts on his or hers van

I would suggest you consider replacing him or her with a specialist BOILER SERVICING COMPANY preferably Oftec Registered
