Our old remote control for a Technika LCD 26-207 stopped working. Tesco just gave us a new one which also doesn't work. Does this mean something is up with the telly or is there a set up procedure to get remotes to work. The new one looks exactly like the old one, could it be mixed up for one for different tv.

Sounds like maybe the remote receiver on the tv itself has gone faulty if a replacement remote doesn't work.
