bath tap slipping?

My bathroom mixer taps (classic 'telephone' style?) the tap is worn on the grip so when you turn the water on or off the head of the tap you hold just slips and you cant turn it?

is there anything i can do the grip inside is just worn away

You could certainly glue it, by using something like Araldite or better still an epoxy putty from a motor factors...naturally enough though, you'll have a hell of a job getting the thing adrift again if you need to!

hi thanks for reply, yes the brass splines are worn, is there any way, the tap is very old? could i glue it? or is it a new tap i will have to buy?

thanks

Difficult one, as the tap insert is likely to be chromed - the insert has brass splines on it and these engage either directly to the tap top itself or to a plastic insert. Just see that the central screw is tight and contact the manufacturer if you can.
