Humax PVR9200T - keeps freezing?

Hi
I have a Humax PVR9200T which is only about 2-3 years old - it appears to be switching on but then the picture freezes. Anyone help?

Same here: Solution as noted in other posts:

Download latest firmware PVR9200T_apps_1.00.23.hdf from http://www.humaxdigital.com/uk/support/downloadcenter_model.aspx?category_seq=56

Follow the Download instructions there and install using a null modem cable and the application WDN4OAK+

Still seemed to be the same, so I phoned Humax at 5p per minute. No help there.

Tried quickly changing channel to Sky News whilst it was still alive as suggested somewhere, then power on and off and the Menu worked. From that I did a new install scan, it found all the channels and has worked since.

I suspect that the channel frequencies were out of date, so it somehow couldn't get started.

This has been driving me mad for ages - just did what Ad Rogg said and hey presto - it works now...

I realised that if left on a BBC channel (I'm only sure of BBC1), my unit freezes. So I always leave my unit on Ch4 when unattended. This has solved my once frequent freezing problems.

Do not allow the memory to fill right up.

Set the timer so that it switches off for 3 to 8 hours per day

Unplug it from the mains socket occasionally.

Hi Jan,
I had same problem & fixed it same as Ad Rogg. Almost chucked it out of the window, now set it to record Xfactor, for the wife, hope I`ll be in her good books!!!

Thank you Ad Rogg
I had this problem and when I contacted Humax they told me they would collect it, fix it, and bring it back, even though it's out of warranty. Anyway, I then visited this site and did as you suggested, and guess what - it worked. It's a pity Humax don't know about this fix, or if they do it's a pity they didn't tell me about it!

15:20hrs 13/05/2010. The Free "Over the Air" fix is still being tested and will not be transmitted until the end of the month. They are aware of the problem since the digital switchover and are working on testing at the moment.

This website has been reporting similar probems - http://www.wirefresh.com/humax-pvt-9200t-pvr-problems-slow-performance-and-freezes/

Got close to throwing my PVR9200T out but when the Sky engineer told me that I could not have sky due to a rather large tree I started looking to the WWW for a resolution.

Found out that due to the switch over my box is now receiving signals from our previous transmitter at Mendip but also one in Wales, when looking at the EPG guide I had channels in the 800 range most of which were duplicates but my BBC1 & 2 were now Cymru...

To fix I deleted every channel on the PVR the machine then goes into automatic search for channels. Once the automatic search is complete, it has probably found 100+TV and 25+Radio, do not save the channels just yet. Start by selecting all channels then proceed through the deselecting all the channels that you would watch or listen, then you need to re highlight any duplicated channels so for instance you do not have ITV twice when saved (if like myself you live in the west country then it would be best to delete the duplicate from the front as these are the ones from the Welsh transmitter). When happy that all the chaff and duplicates are highlighted go to the delete button to remove from list before saving.

Hopefully your box will now respond as it used to in the good old days before the digital switch over, as mine now does.

Has your region recently switched to Digital? I contacted Humax Customer Services on 14th April 2010 and got this very helpful response.
We have identified this issue and have created a software update to resolve the problem. The software update is complete and is currently being tested by a small group of customers to ensure that there are no problems before the update is broadcast to update customer units.
If your experiencing slow response with your remote, please perform the following procedure reset the remote and re-synchronize it with the unit as we have had reports from customers that this relieves the symptoms: - Take the batteries out the remote - Press and hold the standby button while pointing the remote at the receiver for around 10 seconds - When you replace the batteries the remote will be automatically rest and should work again as normal. We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused and thank you for your patience on the matter

I have the same problem, but it also freezes part way through recording - says it's recorded a program, but it still appears in the schedule...
About to throw it out of the window - been great for 3 years, but now becoming unreliable. Might be time to go to the new HD version

THANKYOU thankyou thankyou! What a relief - all sorted now. My "techy" partner of 10 years and I have just split up, so I was wondering how on earth I was going to sort this problem out, and retrieve everything I'd recorded. Really grateful. Cx

as a sales person you will have to wait for the update from humax what ever you do (switching off etc you wont cure it

I spoke with Mark at Humax, St Albans this afternoon . He confirmed an earlier statement from Humax last month that there is a problem with the PVR9200T that is beig addressed by a software fix now under test. He thought it should be OK by the end of Feb, but in any case if the PVR is left on stand-by, there will be an automatic update/fix as soon as ready. For me the machine freezes as soon as switched on. Pity, because is has served us well for 4 years - it's a fine product and I gather this problem has arisen because of retuning at the digital switch time - although it didn't show itself to me immediately.
Unfortunately Humax didn't respond to a more recent email from me on the subject, although last month they did with a fuller explanation, saying a similar problem with the 9300 had been fixed and help was on the way for 9200s

Just wanted to say - thank you so much! You have saved me - and my viewing! Also was having the same problem. Very grateful. Thank the lord for the internet!

Hi Jan,

I had the exact same problem with my machine last week. I found that the below fixed it:

Firstly, switch off the unit at the rocker switch at the back. Then remove the aerial from the PVR and then power it on.

Because you have the aerial disconnected, you will now be able to access your menu.

Access your MENU>INSTALLATION>DEFAULT SETTING>YES (your password is '0000' when required)

The unit will now turn itself off and on again.
Once the machine turns off you will need to reconnect the aerial.

This will reset your box and rescan the channels (you will need the aerial reconnected at this point), once this is finished, make sure to SAVE the results, and this should resolve the problem.

Note: It doesn't delete any recorded programmes!
