GATE VALVE CHANGE?

I've just been advised and quoted to get my Gate Valve change. Not because it is broke but apparantly they're rubbish and at some stage it will lock off and i won't be able to use it. They advised that i need to change it over to a 'normal' Stopcock valve. If this is the case (not sure) then whats the best solution? many thanks

Thats why these Q & A sites are useful. Much appreciated for your sound advice, i'll stick with what i already have. A bit of scare mongering springs to mind, from the plumber that gave me the advice in the first place.

It sounds a bit of a con, but gate valves will seize up eventually, and even if they don't they rarely shut off completely when you want them to. They should be replaced with a full bore ball valve, but you may as well wait until there is a need to replace them.

SOMETIMES A GATEVALVE BREAKS WHEN OPEN SOMETIMES CLOSED. don't bother as many work fine for many years. THE PLUMBING TRADE IS A COMPLETE CON with plumbing designed with inbuilt faults and labour intensive repairs to keep plumbers busy. my 40 year old plumbing lasts better than recent work done 5 years ago.
