how can i stop the water continualy circulating back through the expanshion pipe to the header tank.

this needs sorting or you will have problems soon.
If you have just had a new pump fitted the speed on the pump is too high, on the pump there is a lever saying 1 2 3 if at 3 turn to 2 and see what happens.
If a old pump get a eng to check it out
