How can I find out where the the break/short is in a Headphone's wire?

How can I find out where the break is in Headphone's wire while playing audio through it? One of the ears works and one side of the wire has to be carrying the audiosignal to the right ear, I'm either losing signal at the volume gadget (which you can open and resolder the wires) or afterwords further up by the ears since the wires have to wrap around within the plastic so there might be short on the earphones themselves that might need resoldering or a break in the wire.

I have a logitech precision headset and one of the ears stopped functioning I've tried resoldering the wires, but I'd like to know if there is an easy way to find out where audio is being cut off.

Here is a picture of what it loks like

A relatively common problem - they make the wires extra flexible and in doing so use very fine conductors - continual strain at the bending places - close to one end or another - eventually causes the conductors to break until they're all open circuit. You can cometimes find the point of failure by using you fingers at the likely places while you listen for an ear to suddenly start up for a second.

Repair, however, is not always possible and if you can manage to do it, it's seldom efffective in the long-term and never very pretty.
