Hotpoint wf540-cleaning filter?

I have a hotpoint wf540 washing machine and the pump filter is located behind a screw cap behind washing machine. I have removed the cap before but it has become jammed and will only turn 1/4 way round. Any suggestions or techniques to remove it?
