The player works for about 20 mins and then switches itself off. When you switch it back on again it then works for about 15 mins and does the same thing. This is with either a DVD or Music CD

Any ideas on if it need a repair or there is a setting that is switching it off?

I had a similar problem. The fan had failed (youmay have noticed increased fan noise) and it was overheating and shutting down. If it is not the fan then there are some forums that talk about failed capacitors causing the same problem. I have fixed this twice on my machine.
