Sky Plus Box?

"why does itv1 take up so much more recording space in Sky Plus" e.g 2 hour feature length movie can take up to 10% space but on other channels it can be as little as 2%. Why is this and can anything be done about it?

I imagine it is the bit rate used for particular channels. They often differ. Bigger bit rate means a better picture.
