How can i fix my washing machine Bosch, WFK 2801 ?

At the very start of a wash the water fills to a certain level in the drum then the circuit breaker trips off the power to the ring main.
I have drained the pump and cleaned filter then turned it on as for a new wash cycle and the same thing happened when the water reached a curtain level, the electric turned off everything on the ring.
I would appreciate any help and I am mechanically minded so I will be able to do this repair myself, to save a lot of money.
Best regards
Robin

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question, which made perfect sense.
I got to the brushes quite easley and removed them; they both had a good 25mm / one inch left on them.
I took the brushes to a local appliances shop to buy new ones and unfortunately on comparing mine with the new ones the owner said they weren’t worn enough, which i kind of thought myself. He said there must be an electrical shortage inside the motor itself, so I didn’t buy them. I knew a motor would cost too much and not worth repairing the washer, anyway for a laugh I said to look it up = £350. On looking around his shop, strangely enough there were new and reconditioned washers at the same price or under, (who knows eh?)
So Jim, unless you or anyone has any further ideas on finding the fault I will have to give up saving it from the scrap heap.
All the best Rob

Hi Robin , first of all take the top off of the machine , then look for a small round air switch you can find this easily enough it has a small thin plastic tube going to it this tube goes from the switch to the bottem of the drum , what happens is this , when the water reaches a certain level , it pushes air up this small tube which switches the power on for the moter to opperate , if the motor has worn down brushes it could be cause of a short which is causing your mains to trip .hope this helps
