You could try placing the aerial up in the loft (lol)
Only negative I can see is trailing aerial lead through bedroom, down stairs, etc

Digital TV usually requires a good strong signal to be presented to it. You will not get such a signal from an indoor aerial - you will need a roof aerial or a dish or cable supplied signals.
All Digital TVs work without an inside aerial because they will not work WITH an inside aerial - they need an external aerial.
A poor signal on a regular analogue TV can still give you a picture - blurred with fuzzy sound perhaps but you get to see something. Digital TV is not the same - if too much signal is lost or distorted then the picture either freezes or does not appear at all.
