4 way ceiling light?

I have bought a new ceiling light which has a 3 way connection, on my ceiling the wiring is 4 way? what is the difference and can I still use my new ceiling light
Carol, February 2010
The general case is that at the ceiling there are four "ways"
Earth
Neutral
Permanent Live (does not connect to the light)
Switched Live (to turn the light on and off)

Your new light fitting requires
Earth (if it's metal or has an earth terminal)
Neutral
Switched Live (to turn it on and off)

You need to preserve the four ways at the ceiling - a four-way terminal box or terminal block strip.

An electrician will easily solve the dilemma.

Good luck... take care...
