The drum appears to have dropped in my indesit wg1034t please help?

My washing machine was working fine when all of a sudden it made a loud noise and stopped spinning...I removed the back cover and found the belt had come off...after looking at the front of the machine i also noticed that the drum has dropped about 1/2" to an 1"...I have been told by a mate that it could possibly be a shockabsorber problem, but after looking from underneath and on top of the drum it doesn't appear to have any fitted..it does however have rods fitted instead on either side of the drum..
Can anyone please give me some info on how to get this problem rectified?...Thanks for looking,...Roger.. rogthomas@dsl.pipex.com

Happened to mine, after 14 years trouble free operation. On opening up the back of the machine and then opening up the back of the outer drum (by prizing off the very tight metal o-ring) I found that the 'legs' on the back of the drum had all broken off. Looks like due to corrosion over time.
It's probably not cost-effective to repair - Indesit is quoting £110 for a new drum. Re-sealing the outer drum would be tricky too.

Not necessarily the bearings as the inner aluminium drum support may have corroded and cracked.

The bearings have gone on the drum, this causes the drum to drop and moves the pulley in the back of the machine making the belt slip off.

My indesit wg1034T has just started leaking inside! The water doesn`t remain in the drum. Any ideas?

Fixed the same problem just now on my Zanussi TDS 383W, and it sounds the same drum type of design as you have.

Before I got around to fixing it,We had the problem for years with my wife complaining of ripped clothing, or clothing with dark marks on it, from things getting caught in the gap between the drum and the seal at the front of the machine.

Anyhow, how to fix it:

1. Remove the top by taking out the two screws at the back.
You will what has happened is the drum has slipped off a big circular seal between it and the front of the machine. If you pull up on the back of the drum and push it forward, it will then mount the seal. That is where it should be. The trick is to keep it there. Do that as follows:

2. Remove the drum bearing by taking the screws out on the plate that is exposed in the middle of the metal cover at the back of the machine, and removing the circlip.

3. Find 1/4inch of thick washers just larger than the shaft and put them onto the shaft. This acts as a spacer preventing the drum moving into the bearing.

4. Put back the bearing, putting in some high temperature grease to keep it going.

5. Switch it on and check it works.

6. Put the lid back on.

7. Do not tell your wife how easy it is.
