How do you remove shower mixer control from wall?

Water has stopped flowing to my shower. It would appear that the MIRA control unit has failed. I wish to purchase a replacement control unit, however with a spanner the unit does want to disconnect. My concern is that I may damage the wall connection.

If its a round bodied valve there will be a captive holding plate at the back of the valve body. Usually a grub screw in there either small allen key or flat head screw, look under bottom of the valve
