Kenmore 70 series washer won't drain until it spins?

My washer won't drain (I hear nothing happening) until it enters the spin cycle. Then it spins and drains at the same time and the clothes are still wet in the end. What could be wrong?

Draining and spinning are normal, however if your clothes are very wet at the end of the cycle you could have a broken motor coupler ( if worn spin cycle will be weak), bad gearcase ( if timer bypasses spin cycle and advance to off gc may be bad), clutch/brake assembly (if clutch is slipping due to oil leaking from gearcase/gc spin will be diminished drastically), or basket drive (worn or corroded basket drive will cause a weakened spin). I would check the motor coupler ( if its loose or worn replace it) and clutch first( remove agitator and then remove water pump, motor, and then 4 screws securing gearcase. Check clutch by using index finger to try and move brake, if it moves easily replace slipping clutch. Good luck.
