Computer huts down after going online?

I have a Gateway computer running XP that seems fine until I log online using a modem. After about 20-30 seconds it pops up a message that says the computer is going to shut down..and it does. Didn't use to do that. Help!

you most certainly have a worm blaster virus, the other answers are correct, however I suggest that you find a friend who has constant net access and download the virus remover and the security patch and save to floppy then apply to your own machine off line.

You need to goto windowsupdate.com and download the security patches and also get yourself a good virus checker

This is a symptom of the Blaster Worm. I think that you should check your PC with your antivirus software. If you detect the Blaster worm go here for instructions to remove it....
