Can the sealed unit be removed from my aluminium windows?

I have been told you cannot take a sealed unit out of my aluminium frames and replace with new without taking the whole window out. This cannot be right or what would happen if a pane was broken. They are Everest aluminium frames with hardwood surround and have gone misty.

Yes you can.

There are no beads on Everest units, the aluminium frame wraps itself around the glass unit (better for security)

Take the sash off its hinges and lay flat, on each corner there will be a securing screw, remove the screw from each corner then using a hammer and piece of wood - gently tap away the aluminuim frame.

This will reveal the glass unit - again sitting inside a wrap round gasket.

I would do all this to measure the replacement glass unit before you order it (overall size and thickess - both VERY important!!!)
I know it means refitting it for a few weeks while you wait for the new glass but at least when the new one arrives you'll know how to change it!

Hope this helps.
