If the doorsare solid wood then you can paint directly onto it after light sanding to ensure you have a good surface for the paint to bond to. If your doors are platice coated or melamine the you can buy a product called ESP, you wipe this onto the surfaces to be painted and the paint will bond to it easily........you can actually paint glass with this product

yes,but lightly sand them down first and add a undercoat before painting

Yes, you can buy special paint at any large diy store (B&Q) for melamine doors,if they are wooden doors just prime them first then paint.
