I have moved into a new flat and its wired with energy saving lights through the whole flat. I cant seem to fit light shades in none of the room this is because the whole on the light shade is smaller then the one on the light where it sits.

I have tried different shades but they all have standard wholes which do not fit on the lights .

there is a metal ring attached to each light. Can someone help and advise me please.

the bottom ring or collar of all light fitting should unscrew off, but I have known them to seize on,mainly on plastic version due to heat of 100w bulbs or more being used
try this as metal is more durable than plastic
power OFF
energy bulb removed
a pair of adjustable pliers, undo the metal ring
repeat for other fittings
