Older Panasonic tv won't stay on channel?

Earlier this evening, our older Panasonic displayed one word "component", with a blue asterisk next to it. Then it started to ignore ANY commands from the remote and channels just kept going from one to the next and wouldn't stay on any one channel. Any thoughts or ideas what to ask about when calling about repairs and estimates or is it cheaper to get another tv?

Found out today that the buttons on the front of the set under the cover can sometimes be subject to moisture and "stick" or lock in a certain mode. The gentleman I talked with is a technician and he had said this model seldom gave any problems other than replacing those buttons if they couldn't be freed up or pulling them and cleaning them. Anyhow, 5 minutes later, after hitting the channel selector buttons a couple of times, it is up and running as good as ever! He said it ignored the commands of the remote since the buttons are manual input. So thank you if you read this and thought about it!....Tv model is Panasonic 32SC14 Pure Flat Color.
