my thomson dt16300-16 has stopped working?

i have checked the fuses including the internal one and they are ok. The box is about 3 years old, is this the end of its life, if so can I get the saved recordings off of it? any ideas would be appreciated.

My Thomson box has stopped working properly. It can take hours for even the amber light to appear and launch the set-top box. One can hear the box slowly ticking over until it decides to start. Yesterday took at least 3 hours to initialise.

I changed the internal fuse but this has not helped. I have spoken to top-up-tv who were as useful as a chocolate fire guard. Absolutely no help in advising how to solve problem. Even denied that there were software problems for the first couple of years on the Thomson DTR! Try googling "Thomson DTR problems!!!"

Bought two years ago, out of warranty, didn't want to know unless I was going to buy something (sales bonuses no doubt) Cheeky bas**rd on phone tried to sell me another one. My advice to those intending to buy a new set-top-box is to avoid Thomson & top up tv like you would the plague.

Anyone needing a quick fix only if you have power. Message taken from TopUpTV
Does your Thomson DTi6300 fail to power on normally and displays a solid amber light? During the past few days we have been made aware of an issue affecting a number of our customers with a Thomson DTi6300 box. Customers have been experiencing problems with their box failing to come out of standby mode and typically showing a constant amber light on the front panel.

This fault is due to a broadcast issue which has led to a corrupt file being loaded onto the hard disk.

Only Thomson DTi6300 boxes have been affected. If you have been experiencing problems of this nature first of all try switching your box off at the wall and leave for twenty seconds. If this does not work, please try the following procedure.

Please note this will unfortunately cause recordings in your programme library to be lost which we?re very sorry about. You may have to try this procedure a few times in order to resolve the issue as it requires complete attention and precise timing.

1. Disconnect the power supply from the unit by removing the power cable from the back of the box.
2. Wait 20 seconds and then put the power cable back in while pressing the 'standby/power on' buttonrepeatedly on the front panel of the box.
3. Release the standby button as soon as you see a light flash on the front of your box and thenimmediately press the arrow buttons on the front panel quickly and in the following sequence: Up, Down, Left, Right (please note this is not the order the arrow buttons appear on the box).
4. Your box should then show the amber light with the green light flashing until the disk re-format has been completed which will take around 60 seconds. The box should return to a solid red light (standby) automatically. If after 2 minutes your box still does not display a solid red light, please repeat steps 1-4.
5. When you return to the TV GUIDE screen, you will now need to scan for channels to restore your Top Up TV channel logos. To do this, please select Option 4 (set-up) from the Main Menu, followed by option 1 (scan for channels).
6. IMPORTANT: Once you have completed your channel scan, you will need to select option 5 from the Main Menu (Choose your channels) to re-select all those channel providers you would like Top Up TV to download shows from.

ps: also you can try menu-setup-help then press the yellow then blue buttons you WILL lose all recordings so make sur this is ok

Apparently there is a re-set botton.. will find out where this is....

1. disconnect the power from the box
2. reconnect the power to the box
3. at the same time as you reconnect the power, press the front-panel standby button repeatedly
N.B. the amber light will stop flashing and appear 'steady' quickly after this
4. as soon as the amber light goes steady, press the following sequence of front-panel buttons in brisk succession:

Up, Down, Left, Right.

This invokes a BIOS level HDD re-format.

Found this on "how to mend it.com."

It also says, you may have to make up to 9 attempts at this. I have tried once so far, with no luck.
(Loads more other stuff about fixing Thomson at this site.)
Good luck.

Don't Get Excited.
Weird, I have the same model.
Mine simply stopped working on 1st May,
again, checked power supply.
No luck yet, but if I find anything,
will keep you posted.
