Also illegal to work on a gas appliance unless you are gas safe registered. Give Ferroli a call and see if they give you technical advice - guarantee they wont, but they will forward your details on the the HSE for Illegal gas work. When working on a gas appliance there are checks that must be carried out once worked on to confirm safe operation - NO A FLAME DOES NOT MEAN SAFE. If your not a gas engineer stay well away.

British Gas £164 inc vat and part to resolve problem. If more than one fault you will be advised, but at least you know that for the £164 your getting the boiler fixed and safely too

its not kettling just tripping to red after about 15 mins

is it a compact? if so i'd have the high limit stat replaced. it may also be overheating, you will be able to tell if it's making kettling noises. it may also be a faulty pcb but try the high limit stat first as it's much much cheaper and easy to replace.
