help!! need to know how to wire ceiling fan and light 2 sets of wires?
Hi, i have just removed an old light fitting to replace it with a fan and light. I noticed there are 2 sets of wires both with 1x red 1x black and 1x green/yellow. The thing is i find this a strange set up from the previous light. The old fitting has an earth and 3 connectors, connectors are all in a line but seperated. the connector on the left has the space for 3 wires the connector in the middle has space for 3 wires and the connector on the right has space for 2 wires. This was originally fitted with the 2 reds from both wires together only not touching anything but themselves presumably, one of the blacks wires to the right and the other black to the left, both green and yelllow wires twisted together to the earth. the black wire on the left has red tape on it for some reason and the other on the right is just black but obviously from the other wire. the bulb wires themselves were wired as follows.. brown to the left which is with the black wire with red tape on it and blue wire to the other black wire in the connector on the right. There is only 1 set of wires to the switch which is wired correctly. it looks like one wire has to lives (the one with red and the black wire with red tape on it, but the neutral appears to be the black on the other wire with both reds of both wires looping in the middle. This has confused me as i have tried to wire the fan and everytime i try to turn the electric on it trips the circuit breaker. how do i wire this fan/light? the fan has space for 2 seperate lives, one for the light and one for the fan and a single neutral and an earth. this sounds really confusing but ive tried as hard as i can to explain i hope it makes sense regards jamie
