My Hitachi DV3 hard drive failed?

It comes up with a message "Hard drive initialisation failed. Record and playback functions are disabled". How can I fix this.

yep my hard drive failed as well - this recorder has been nothing but trouble since we first purchaised it !

It sounds like the Hard drive has died. Try fitting a replacement. No promoses but the hard drive is the most likely cause.
