IPOD KEEPS COMING UP WITH A SAD FACE AND CROSSES FOR EYES... HOW DO I FIX IT THIS IS MY SIXTH IPOD AND MY WARRENTY HAS RAN OUT

Sounds ridiculous, but I have read it online and successfully (short-term) fixed it by whenever it has the sad face - drop it on the floor or bang it on the bottom of the ipod (where you insert the charger) and it almost always works for me.

Again, it sounds stupid - but works.

sorry to answer a question with a question . but anyhoo
I recently had a dead ipod as you did. I replaced the hard drive (and the battery while i was at it) and its going like a wee train now. You have to exhaust all other ipod-PC possibilities 1st. but it sounds like the drive to me.
if your prepared to take the back off and fiddle its straight forward.
