mw hotpoint wm761 washing machine drum doesnt spin what could be wrong?

my washing machine drum doesnt spin when i put it on wash or spin if a move the drum by hand it spins what could be wrong

its either the belt snapped or came off but being a hotpoint i would put it down to being the brushes in the motor.
