How can i fix my leaking garden tap?

My garden tap is leaking from the joint which connects to the main pipe that goes into the kitchen. Not from the fawcet. What do I do? I tried to tighten it round with mould grips but didn't work. I unscrewed it off slighty to see if it looked faulty but was worried about making it worse. Please help

hello Sharon, best thing to do is to isolate the cold water supply and undo the joint and give it a good clean with a scouring type pad. i assume its a metal fitting, put a few wraps of plumbers p.t.f.e tape around the thread of the joint (B+Q) in a clockwise direction,a bit of tape aound the olive may also help.the olive is the ring which will be fixed a few mm from the end of the pipe and cannot be removed. the tape is thin and can be a pain to put on. you can then tighten it up,dont over tighten it or let it twist. hope you sort it.
