why does my brand new bedside lamp keep blowing bulbs? standard 60w bulbs.

What do you mean "keep blowing bulbs" ???

How long do they last?

My suspicion is that you have a batch of bad / inferior lamps.

I can not imagine any fault in a lamp that would cause a bulb to blow prematurely apart from a poor connection that causes the bulb to be constantly switched on and off.
