door won't lock?

door handle pushes up but not fully key go's into lock but won't turn fully,have used wd40 ,but still no joy

If the door locks correctly when open then the door has probably dropped, you could adjust it back up on the hinges by adjusting the lower hinge back out a bit and the top hinge screw it in a bit
Or the other way is to take out the top bead then pull up the sash & repack the spacers on top of the panel to realign the locks.

The cheats way is to move the keeps down which leaves the door in the dropped position

Are the bits that move on the side of the door when the handle goes up moving? Or has one of the catches for these bits come loose on the door frame? Sorry for lack of correct names for these things I don't know what their called lol. I had the prob a few months back and just needed to tighten up and realign the catches on the door frame.

Have a look on the lock side inner frame you will see plates where the locking bolts on the door should be engaging It ( usually about 3 of them ) It could be that one or more are out of allignment to the locking bolts on the door itself. the plates have room for adjustment on them by loosening the screws and re-alligning to suit the locking bolts ....
